Steel City Emergency Vets opened in 2017 and currently has 5 full-time and 7 part-time veterinarians.  We are continuing to see tremendous growth and are excited to be adding 2 more full-time doctors (ER DVM or Criticalist // relief and part-time positions are also available) to our state-of-the-art, after-hours emergency practice near Birmingham, AL.

We are seeking clinicians who have a passion for emergency medicine and strive to elevate the level of medicine in Alabama.  We provide the freedom of working in a single owner, non-corporate environment with the scheduling flexibility to allow for ample time off. The typical schedule averages 2.5 shifts (about 31-32 hrs) per week while taking off every other weekend with an option to work additional shifts. Our doctors are supported by a highly skilled and engaged staff. The hospital owner (DVM) has been solely dedicated to emergency medicine for over 20 years and is on-site and responsive to concerns and requests of the doctors and staff. 2+ years experience in emergency medicine is ideal, but our doctors would enjoy mentoring the right candidate if less experienced. We welcome new graduates to apply.

SCEV is a modern, privately owned 4500 sq ft facility located in an affluent suburb of Birmingham, AL. We have a strong referral base of over 100 hospitals within an hours drive. Our facility includes 5 exam rooms, a doctor’s sleeping quarters,  OmniTom  16 slice CT scanner, Samsung HS40 ultrasound, Digital Radiography, EzyVet EMR including Smartflow Systems, online check-in, multi-parameter monitors, full in-house IDEXX and HESKA laboratory, Coags, fully equipped surgery suite, central oxygen and suction,  Doppler BP, and a Regal O2 cage/intensive care unit. We are in the process of adding Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy, high flow nasal oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilator, and endoscopy services in 2021. We are continuing to expand services as we grow and look forward to offering 24/7 care in the very near future.
